MEMORANDUM FOR Chief, G3 plans, ATTN: MAJ Delony

SUBJECT: NBC Perspective an the 100 Hour War (U)

1.(U)kr The G3/NBC perspective on the 100 Hour War revolves around
the IRAQI capability to conduct chemical or biological warfare, the
coalition response to that perceived threat, and the actual CW/BW
course of action followed by IRAQ.
2(U.IW In response to the intelligence indicators, Corps G3/NBC
attempted to reinforce divisional NBC defense capabilities by task
organizing chemical companies (decon and dual purpose) and NBC
reconnaissance platoons. This included OPCON of a US Fox NBCRS
platoon to the Gth Light Armor Division (FRENCH) for the initial
Corps main effort and GS decon assets for the marshalling area.
3(UIZT The most significant activity to report is the employment
of -The Fox NBC reconnaissance vehicle in a combat environment. This
was the first time a FOX system was so employed. Although chemicals
were not used, the system provided a quantum leap in operational
          capability.
4(Ltlorr Additionally, of significance to this theater was the
highly publicized CW/BW threat that did not materialize. No
confirmed field storage sites have been found in our sector and not
one XVIII Abn Corps soldier was a chemical agent casualty.
Unresolved is whore chemical munitions were stored and why they
          weren't used.
5(U)44W Since cessation of hostilities, it is apparent that if
Saddam believed coalition forces would employ chemical munitions,
the IRAQI soldier was !II-prepared. Incomplete protective Sear,
unservicable equipment or just no equipment characterizes the lack
          of IRAQI NBC defense readiness.
s(Lt@&r G3/NBC view on the 100 Hour War is one of relief and
confusion simultaneously. Relief that no chemical or biological
weapons were used and confusion as to u y they weren't given
          previous assessments of IRAQ's capability.

          7. (U) POC is CPT Turner, 7651-124.
