SUBJECT: Equipment Message Update
1. Purpose. To inform commanders of changes to operational
or safety procedures on specific pieces of equipment.
2. Facts. On 30 Dec 90, five (5) messages were forwarded
to 24th ID (M) units under distribution B and C. A brief
summary of these messages follows:
a. Message, Cdr AMCCOM, 04160OZ Dec 90, SUBJECT:
Safety-of-Use Advisory, Operational 38-90 for M16 Series
Rifles.
Summary: This message describes alternate procedures
that must be followed when firing the M16 series rifle and a
noticeable difference in sound or recoil is experienced. DO
NOT APPLY IMMEDIATE ACTION!
b. Message, Cdr, AMCCOM, 30150OZ Nov 90, SUBJECT:
Ammunition Information Notice (AIN) 13-91; Precautions to
Prevent Buildup of Propellant Retaining Clips During Firing
of 4.2 inch Mortars.
Summary: Propellant retaining clips fall off the 4.2
inch mortar charges when firing. To prevent misfires, first
check to ensure the clips are seated in the grooves on the
cartridge container. Then, visibly check the bottom of the
tube approximately every 40 rounds. If more than five clips
are in the tube, remove them by dumping the tube.
C. Message, Cdr, AMCCOM 14160OZ Dec 90, SUBJECT:
Safety-of-Use Message, Advisory AMCCOM No. 39-90 for M17
Decontaminating Apparatus, NSN 4230-01-251-8702, LIN D82404.
Summary: This message does not deadline or restrict the
use of the M17. It warns of a safety hazard when the spray
wand is used to spray personnel. High temperature and
pressure create a safety hazard.
d. Message, Cdr, AMCCOM, 19122OZ Dec 90, SUBJECT:
Maintenance Advisory Message # 90-58, MIAI Bore Brush
Assembly.
