               ISSUE: 'R6semblaiice to threat vehicles

DISCUSSION: The FOX (NBCRS) looks like a sister vehicle to the
BTR-60. Ma@ny soldiers, both our own'and c)ur allies, are not yet fully
familiar with the FOX and its mission. My crew was engaged by friendly fire
during Desert Stormahd was' mistaken for -.n OT-64.' Fortunately, visibility
.was decreased from a'sa@nd storm and our rangewas far enough away (3.- '3.5
Km), we did not suffer any direct hits. Fratricide is-a major consideration
in any war and-Desert Storm 1.@ore out this c6ncern'both from friendly air and
  ground forces.

P.ECOMMNDATION: Extensive effort must be undertaken at-all branch
schools, especially'tho6e of,the combat ax-ms,'to ensure that all soldiers and
leaders can recognize a FOX (NBCRS) as eaf:ily as an MIAL Abrams tank. Thesb
efforts must also be duplicated at the schools of our sister serv'jces
considering the joint service aspects of E)ast-aiid 'future conflicts. Every
effort must be made to employ this system with all kinds of troops from the
FEBA to the COMMZ. This will not only help gain recognition for this system,
but will.also enable ciews.to practice employment in the multifaceted roles
that they.will face in future combat situations.
