ISSUE: Maintenance Support at'Genoral Dynamics Support Facility
DISCUSSION: These mechanics E-,t the direct support facility were
the worst I have ever seen. Many.t'3'-mes they could not interpret the technical
.manuals (printed in English), were-not ve@.-y mechanically inclined, failed to
reassemble the equipment pro)?erly, causing it@ tofal.1 again unnecessarily, and
pulled the power pacs'f6r every little mec!hani6al'problem. This was their
panacea'for everything. Training for these mechanics was a little more than
minimal and consisted of a short cours@e at. the Thyssen Henschel facility in
Kassel. These mechanics were ill prepared to maintain and repair our
   vehicles.

RECOMMENDATION: More training needs to bei"'allocated for the
mechanics who, work on the FOX (NDCRS). WEt also-rieidd soldiers trained so that
they.can do our-maintenance. If civilians are to be a part of the maintenance
program for afew years to ?Opi@,.applicants need to be more thoroughly
screened. It takes a very intelligent individual to work on the FOX (NBCRS)
and its various components. Former mi;_litary'member's who specialize in
maintenance are 6xcellent choices but we ILeed to give them the courtesy of a
more comprehensive training program. The same holds true for Soldiers when
they are eventually trained to maintain this system.
