 2. (U) DESERT STORM 91 conducted on 04118/91

 3. (U) KEYWORDS: None.
 4. (U) TITLE: Inadequate MTOE veterinary Drugs to Perform War Time mission

 S. (U) OBSERVATION: The XTOE for a JA or JB team has an
inadequate variety of veterinary drugs to perform the war time
mission. In addition what few veterinary drugs were in the
federal stock system never arrived in theater after a months of
 being on order.
 6. (U) DISCUSSION: Though there was not a large animal mission
in theater, in the few instances when animals needed to be
treated we invariably did not have the drugs needed. The few
drugs that were in the federal stock system never arrived
because of delays in contracting at origin.

 7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: We obtained the needed drugs by
establishing a local purchase account or by borrowing them from
other units which deployed from CONUS with large stookages of
 locally procured drugs.
 8. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: (AHS) Establish a comprehensive list
of federal stock veterinary drugs which are placed in the
updated XTOE. Require all Veterinary units which use these
drugs for local ADPAC's and deployment civic action programs to
order them on a regular basis to establish a reoccuring demand.
 9. (U) COMMENT: Examples of required veterinary drugs which
were not available include euthanasia solution, vaccines,
anesthetics and tranquilizers (ROMPUM, Acepromazine etc.), broad
spectrum anthelminthics, ear cleaning solutions, insecticides,
dips and shampoos, Ivermectin, heartworm test kits and
reagents, heartworm preventative and large animal injectable
antibiotics (such as Liquamycint Gentocin, Tylosin etc.).
