HUMAN WASTE DISPOSAL POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS
PROBLEM: Plies are not being adequately controlled and will become more of
a threat as the weather gets warmer.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Inside latrine, place MPE box with folded cardboard ient insid'e. Apply
3 MRE spoonfuls of Apache or Snip flybait moistened with water so it will stick
to cardboard. Do not saturate bait with water. Reapply every 2-4 days as ne-
cessary.
2. Inside latrine hang flystrips.
3. If spring on door does not work adequately, use a pulley made of string
and weight attached to door to close it completely. Place the enclosed
(Enclosure 3) slogan in latrinesto encourage closing seat lids.
4. Daily detail should be assigned to clean inside of latrines of waste, spills,
etc.
5. Handwashing devices with gravel soakage pits or catch containers should
be provided.
6. People sitting to urinate are missing the cans and urine is collecting on
the ground attracting and breeding pests. Ensure that the cans are properly
replaced after cleaning.
7. Two additional simple field expedient fly traps are suggested. One is on
the following page. The other is made by cutting the top off a water bottle
about 1/4 of the way from the top. Close the cap and make a small hole for
flies to enter. Fill the bottom 1/4 of the way with sand, fill about 1/2
way with water and )(oolaid. Insert the narrow end of the top into the bottom
securely.
