CERTIFICATE
I, make the following statement under oath: On
the nignr ot me q uec ~u while on Brigade maneuvers. A66 lost power and
went into protective mode. The company Commander
transferred tanks to A65. I instructed the drive
power down the tank. I called the company maintel,anuv t.can' ±'sLnaL'. ~sfl
the radio. the hull contact man climbed on the tank. I
told him the symptoms of the tank. In the time span the driver reset the
tank and started it. The tank acted normal andchecked the
transmission area. We thought it was normal so we decided to try and
catch up to the task force. We tried for about fifteen (15) minutes
later. I called the company commander and told him we were operational.
He told me to stand fast with the TOO. He came back to us. We then
waited whilehecked systems in the drivers hatch and back
deck. We then went to try and refuel. The tank would not go into
forward only reverse. continued trouble shooting. The CO took
our grid and told us he ac . We continued trouble shooting on the
back deck, drivers hatch and with the —20 manual. (1) We then powered
down the tank for approximately five hours. The CO returned we refueled
the tank. continued checking the tank with the —20 ma
The CO us i we could move. We said yes so we moved on a~ hour
road march to the forward 'ViA". We got there and proceeded to walk the
track. In the process of walking the track the transmission refused to
gain forward again. We called He did —20 cA2cks to
include the "breakout ". We waited approximately four ~ours and
let the tank cool down. At approximately 1500 we SP'd to come back here
tactically. While on the road mA~h approximately (2 1/2) hours later we
stopped for a thirty (30) minute rom what the 5—3 said on the radio.
He said, "No don't shut down because with the engine running more cool
air get into the engine." 'Under his guidance we poured approximately one
(1) case of bottled water in the transmission coiling fan area to help
cool the transmission oil down. When the break was over we resumed the
road march for approximately (2) two more hours. During that time.
towards the end we were experiencing a loss of power according to the
driver. We decided to try and get back to the (AA Gator" so
the maintenance team chief could check the tank out, While we were eing
ground guided through the refueling area. I had popped my head out of
the hatch. I thought I smelled burning oil but was not sure. We got
back to the '%?~c~ ight outside the gate the tank would not turn. I
ripped out the wire o let the tank get inside the perimeter and
hopefully make ,~ a~ ,w~e turn to the maintenance area. About (100) one
hundred meter~XA h~ perimeter the tank aborted. I proceeded to the
maintenance chiefs tent to inform him about the tank. While in the tent
"an in and said "the tanks onfire!" Myself,and
'an back to the tank. When we arrived at the tank there were
people on the back deck with the Precleaner door open. There was
somebody pulling the external fire extinguisher handle. I asked did the
first and second shot fire? Somebody yelled yes. I got on the top of
the turret. asked for the adjustable wrench. I told him
that it was in the TO's sponsor box as per the Division load plan. Then
said he couldn't get the heavy transmission doors open. I
