SUBJECT: Doha
1. The following is the current status of the Doha Camp Accident
Site Survey:
a. Damage Assessment Team, Ballistics Research Laboratory,
Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. The Damage Assessment Team has
comp@,eted assessment on all combat vehicles in the areas cleared
by Ebb. The team is now waiting for EOD to clear an area to the
M109 Howitzers. With access to the howitzers the team estimates
they barr complete their mission within 24 hours.
b. Depleted 'Uranium (DU) Recovery Team, US Army t@

tank has
contam nation in the ammunition compartment and must by shipped
to the US for disposal as radioactive material. The team is
waiting for EOD to clear an area so the remaining tanks can be
removed from the uncleared area for assessment. The Damage
Assessment Team determined that two of the three remaining Ml
tanks have similar damage to the tank in the cleared area and
will require return to the US for disposal as radioactive
material. with access to the Ml tanks the team estimates it can
complete their mission in 3 days. The team has made arrangements
for HET transport to the Dammamn Port and ship transport to the
US. The ship arrives 2 Aug 91 and will depart 6 Aug 91.
llnformation is not available on the next acceptable ship.
c. US Army Radiological Control (RADCON) Team, US Army
Communications-Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, NJ. The Ari@y
RADCON Team has completed radiation surveys of all areas cleared
by the EOD unit. No areas of conta ation were found. Three
55-gallon drums co-n-t-aEr, or-s-iiiid-i-ii-i3-.e-of burned
ponetratore are in the cleared site. The DU Recovery Team will
place this material in the tank in the cleared area for shipment
to the US. The RADCON team is waiting formovement of the MI
tanks to complete radiations surveys of areas and material near
and underneath the tanks. The team is also waiting for EOD to
clear the remaining areas of camp to complete surveys for DU
penetrators and DU contamination. with access to the areas near
the tanks the team estimates it can complete surveys of these
areas within 2 days and with access to the entire compound the
team estimates it can complete the entire mission within 2 weeks.
