           SUBJECT: Trends During Preparation for operation DeEi-ei,t Shield


           1. The Division Safety office has observed trends during preparation for
           Operation Desert Shield. Ovetall, no widespread deviations from safety
           procedures have been observed; however, deviations noted could, if not
           corrected, contribute to injury or death and/or property damage. In fact, one
           soldier was injured while ground guiding a vehicle and another was injured
           when his ring was caught on an Avenger ladder. Deviations noted are outlined
           at Enclosure 1. On-duty accidents occurring since notification of deployment
           are outlined at Enclosure 2.

           2. Request commanders intensify efforts to preclude recurrence of problem
           areas outlined at Enclosure I and causes of accidents outlined at Enclosure 2.

           3. POC for this action is Mr. Butts/Mr. Jones, 287-2311/9666.
