                                                ABSTRACT



                                   By mid January, the Navy had recalled
                              more than 5,000 medical Selected Reserve
                              (SELRES) personnel in support of Operation
                              Desert Shield. This research memorandum
                              examines the recall of medical SELRES per-
                              sonnel to replace deployed active-duty per-
                              sonnel and to meet theater requirements.
                              An additional document will trace the medi-
                              cal recall through the end of Desert Storm.
