                                (4) Deployment into Kvwait:

                                     The air campaign against Iraqi forces commenced on
                     17 Janua--y'1991. During the time period between the tealm's arrival
                     and deployment to Xuwalt City every piece of past control equipmen@,
                     received preventive miLintanzLnce and inspection -to assure proper
                     operation when required. Daily in-service training was conducted
                     covering topics of p@bi4c -health import to the teams future
                     activities.. in Kuwait.   Fargo containers were obtained amd pre-
                     packed for the purpose of moving 'team supplies and equipmp-nt to
                     whatever site designated or required.

                                     (a) Tlit original mission of the Preventive Medicine
                     Augmentation Team deployed in support of Operations Deser@
                     Shield/Storm was to assist in the management of public health
                     related problems In populations of displaced persons in the Marine
                     Corps AOR. Planning and training was based on 'he assumption tha-,
                     a prolonged state of conflict could result In large numbers a:!
                     civilians deprived of adequate water, food or shelter. The very
                     short and successful ground war did not r"ult In large numbers of
                     displaced civilians In Kuwait o= Saudi Arabia.

                                     (b)   Plans were -also made to augment &,he organic
                     Marine Corps preventive .-medicine assets ill the event that
                     additional personnel would be :ea-uirecl to manage health a.-id
                     sanitation Issues for large numbers of: (@t'Wls). Over 20,ODO 7Fw,s
 transferred to trS A-@ @- Saudi A=zLbipn jurisdiction
                     and additional preventive =@c4-ne assets we-_a not required by the
                     M@ine Corps.

                                     (c) ' Given no T@ireLment for the team In the Marine
                     Corps AOR and,  as a result of coordination with the I I-=F 3rd Civil
                     Affairs Gr@p    and prior discussion with the 352nd Civil Affairs
                     Command of the U.S. A-"m, arrangements were 'made to divert the
                                -the
                     assets of       team to provide assistance izz-,:support o@ uS Army
                     Civil jX-Iairs relief             Kuwai City.

                                     (d) The  ground war to  lil>era@-o Ruwait commenced
                     24 February 1991. On 28   Febrr.&-@ an advance party of
