CCSG 25 Oct 90
MEMORANDUM FOR Public Affairs
SUBJECT: Response to Query Regarding Use of Malathion
1. The insecticide Malathion, is being used for control of a
variety of vectors, including biting flies and filth flies.
2. The ultra low volume (ULV) method of spraying is being
utilized which keeps to a minimum the amount of insecticide
required to achieve adequate control.
3. Malathion is being used in both forward and rear deployment
areas within Saudi Arabia.
4. The use of experienced personnel (entomologists and trained
technicians) , the employment of widely-accepted techniques of
application and the use of the ULV dispersal method insure that
troops are protected from unnecessary exposure to the agent.
5. Insecticides protect deployed troops against a wide range of
vector-borne diseases. Malathion is a very effective, familiar
insecticide that is an excel lent choice for outdoor use.
