Subject: Armed Forces Epidemiology Board Recommendations
UNITED STATES CENTRAL COMMAND
OPERATION DESERT SHIED APO NY 09352
CCSG 24 December 199O
MEMORANDUM THRU CHIEF OF STAFF
DEPUTY COMMANDER IN CHIEF
FOR COMMANDER IN CHIEF
SUBJECT: Armed Forces Epidemiology Board Recommendations
1. Reference Letter from AFEB dated 17 December iggO,
Subject: Recommendation Concerning the Use of Ciprofloxacin.
3. This letter formalizes the prior verbal recommendations but
does NOT address the primary question of who is at risk (based on
intelligence assessments) and who should be given first priority
for immunization. It only adds one additional piece to the BW
defense puzzle.
4. Recommendations:
a. Initiate an immediate information campaign for the
medical community as to these recent findings and recommendations
for therapy of suspected BW victims.
b. Initiate an immediate information campaign for the
medical community as to the proper procedures for collection and
analysis of specimens from suspected BW victims. (The health care
provider remains the first detector for a BW attack)
