round is over 2,000 pounds. and that translates to about 18.000 pounds of ordnance that went in
on some command and control bunkers. We conf~nned that Lhose bunkers wore ~csLroyed by
aLrborne observation. I think an interesting note from d)OSe expens 6 the battleship business, Lhat a
.6 inch round from a banieship can hit at 25 miles away, a target the site of a tennis co~irt. it's a
     Very accurate weapon system.

Although we didn't have any SCUDs f1:td at us last night, we did continue to attack known
SCUD sites, confirmed by intelligence reports of activity. and three different locations - both those
that fired towards Israel and also Saudi Arabia. We attacked three sites and had some vehicles
darnaged~ We cannot confirm any tells. but certainiy we had at least some support vehicles damaged at
each one of those three sites.

We had one s~ooting incident last night which you already have reported, and I'll confirm that
-- the sbootLn£ incident in Jiddah where we had five military people on a bus it was a contract bus,
takin~ some of our troops to their place of work three American servkernen, one Saudi Guard~ and
One Egyptian driver. The resulting injuries were from broken glass. ~t looks like a 9mm. It also
appean to be out of an abandoned lot near one of the main roads. The Saudis. of course. have
responsibility for investigating that, and I*m sure more facts will come out when they get a better
     handle on that panicular incident.

That, ladies and gentlemen. Is the extent of the significant activity in the theater today. I
would like to, very early. open this up to questions and answers.

Q: The incident in Jiddah, are you still referring to it as a possible terrorist attack?
A: I thtnk that's a reasonable conclusion at this Lime. It looks like a random shooting, very
~mal1 target, and certainly no acknowledgment on the part of any organi~tion that it was a contrived
*~rrorist activity1 sol think it's pretty early to connect that with necessarily planned terrorism
     activl:y.

 * Q: You say too early to talk about planned terrorist activity. What about someone who Is
upset with the situation here, could it be sort of a free-lance terroriSt act?
A: That's certainly a feasible explanation for that partIcular incident.

Q: There are reports today out of Baghdad on Reuter, three waves of allied boi'~bers,
B-52's, fighter bombers as well, hitting targets in and around Baghdai Can you confirm that, and
tell us arc these targets Republican Guard, or what targets still stand to be hit in the area?
A: You're talking about 11-52 raids in the Baghdad area?

Q: B-52's southeast and west of Baghdad city proper, and a series of attacks on the
outskirts, which include B-52's. - Can you tell us if this has indeed happened, and if so, what targets
still stand in the area of Baghdad?
A: We, obviously, continue to attack targets in the Baghdad area, but as far as exactly how
much damage )`as been done by those particular raids, I could not address them right now. The It-52
issue is one that's curious. The fl-52's have been targeting the Republican Guard, and I can at least
  * conflrm that we've not been looking for the Republican Guard in Baghdad at this tin'e, so it's a
     questionable report.
