Q; Part of the IRepuWican Guard is probably in the ~urnaylah olifleid. Are you getting any
Secondary sort or explosions in the olifields similar to what happened in ai Wafra occasionally well
beads or Lrunk lines or storaSe depots might be hit?
A: I wouldn't talk about specific geography and location0 but we are. as you know, targeting
the ~epublican Guard, and Consistendy are getting some secondary CAploSiofle from our attacks.
Q: Have you had any reports, aside fr~m the shooting in Jiddab0 of any other kinds of
terrorist acdvities that have come to your attention behind the lines?
A; No0 I'm certainly not aware of any in the theaier. I think we all know there have becn
reports of terrorist activity outside the Gulf areas1 but nothing that 1 know of beyond the Jiddah
incident that I can report 10 you.
Q: General, you spoke about going after his NBC manufacturing capabilities and destroying
Inost of them. 1)0 you have any news about his storage capabilides? Do we know how far you've
destroyed them?
A: We0ve done subsLantial damage to lus StOrage capabili~les. I couldn't give you a percentage
right now, but significant destruction of his storage capabilides and biological and chemical weapon
systen)s.
Q: `l'he British briefer was telling us earlier that weapon systems are not 100 percent
accurate. I'd like to know If you have any kind of report on any targets that shouldn't have been hit
that have been hit. Have there been any inistakes so far, and can you teU us anything about them?
A: I, quite truthfully, cannot tell you of any reports that I know of that would show
inaccurate bombing particularly north of the Saudi/Kuwaiti border. There are a couple described
2i~at may have landed up on friendly positions, but no, I cannot tell you of any I know of that have
possly missed the target. I'm not aware of any.
Q: With the amount of bombing that has been going on, Is It possible there would not have
been one mistake?
A: I would never say never, but I Lidak it's unlikely. Again, Igo back to a point I will
continue to make, tl)at we try to use ~e right kind of weapon systems to attack those targets that
would prCSCnt the potential for collateral damage in civilian corninunities. So even our we;~poneerin£
is designed to avoid civilian caSualties.
Q: What can you tell us about possible Iraqi schools, mosques, or hospitals as headquarters in
lieu of their nonnal headquarters which have been destroyed?
A: I think that happens to be a true fat, and I think even in somc of the aidlelds we find
them trying to move their aircraft into residential areas -- again, recognizing what I've been saying all
along, that we have avoided civilian targets, and clearly, one of their modus operandi iS tO mov~ into
civilian targets to protect their military capability.
Q: Is their tactic working in the sense that we won't attack them In tlie mosques If they're
using them as mili'tar~~ siles?
A: Yes. We have avoided anything that has any religious significance, and we'll continue to do
£0.'
