SUBJ: REPORT ON HEALTH OF IRAQI SOLDIERS 
 
15. TYPHOID WAS CONSIDERED TO BE THE MAJOR THREAT TO THE 
HEALTH AND WELFARE OF IRAQI SOLDIERS.  THEY RECEIVED A 
VACCINATION ONCE A YEAR.  SIGNIFICANT NUMBERS OF FATALITIES 
WERE QUICKLY BURIED IN MASS GRAVES AND USUALLY DID NOT 
PRESENT A HEALTH RISK, ALTHOUGH MAJOR LOSSES ALWAYS AFFECTED 
SOLDIERS, MORALE.  MOST ILLNESSES, SUCH AS DIARRHEA, WERE 
SIMPLY TOLERATED.  SUN AND HEAT STROKE WERE THE EXCEPTION.  
SOLDIERS TOOK ALL POSSIBLE ACTIONS TO PREVENT THESE 
CONDITIONS.
