JAN 91 DIRECTOR 484183

SUBJECT: -OPERATION DESERT STORM BRIEFING

10. NON-CONVENTIONAL WARFARE THERE IS NO

INTELLIGENCE TO SUGGEST THAT IRAQ HAS CONCLUSIVELY DECIDED TO USE NON

CONVENTIONAL WEAPONS. WE BELIEVE IRAQ IS LIKE TO USE UNCONVENTIONAL

WEAPONS PERHAPS AT THE START OF THE GROUND BATTLE, OR IF FRUSTRATED

AT THEIR INABILITY TO DRAW ISRAEL INTO THE WAR.

11. OIL SPILL. WE ESTIMATED 10 MILLION BARRELS OF OIL ARE IN

THE SPILL, AND WILL REACH THE MAIN SAUDI DESALINIZATION FACILITY

SOMETIME LATER THIS WEEK. FLOATING BOOMS SHOULD PROTECT THE DAMAGE

TO A SUBSTANTIAL DEGREE,

WE ARE NOT CERTAIN THAT THE BOMBING OF THE MANIFOLDS HAS

TOTALLY DESTROYED IRAQS ABILITY TO USE THAT ROUTE TO DUMP OIL INTO

THE GULF.
