SUBJECT:  Source Debriefing

IRAQI POSSESSION OF CHEMICAL/NUCLEAR WEAPONS:  Source stated that his Div had no chemical ammunition prior to or after the invasion of Kuwait.  Source had nopersonal knowledge, during his (b.6.)  years of service, of any type of chemical ornuclear weapons in the Iraqi ground forces.  When confronted with the Iraqi useof chemicals in the Iran-Iraq War, Source replied that the Iraqi air force wascapable of delivering chemical munitions.  Source said that the chemicalcapability of Iraq was exaggerated by Saddam Hussein to scare the Israelis.

One week after the air campaign, source travelled to Baghdad [b.6.]  On the way,[b.6.] showed source a destroyed chemical plant at Tarmiya (40 Km south ofBaghdad).  The plant was in the middle of a palm tree farm.  Source was told[b.6.] that a chemical plant was located between the Faluja/Samara road, adjacentto the Tartar creek (NFI).
