Subject: Chemical Laboratory

According to information available on 11 April 1991, Hizballah 
has established a laboratory for producing chemical weapons in 
a southern Beirut suburb. The laboratory reportedly was 
established to assist unidentified terrorist organizations to 
carry out their operations more effectively. The operations 
are to employ chemical weapons, including nerve agents, 
chemical explosives, and protective masks.

This unnamed laboratory reportedly has begun to produce nerve 
agents, including Saren and Soman. These substances were being 
placed in unspecified food items, which unidentified 
terrorists will bring into Saudi Arabia during the Hajj. No 
further details of this operation were available.

Also regarding the laboratory, unspecified Islamic resistance 
elements in southern Lebanon have begun to receive chemical 
weapons from it. In addition, the laboratory has started to 
manufacture masks to protect against poison gas.
