Reconnaissance:

The purpose of reconnaissance operations is to gather information others can use in planning,
taking decisions and issuing orders. The reconnaissance detachments are therefore required to
issue early alarms about attacks of mass destruction weapons, determine the contaminated areas
and location of purification stations. They also perform the duty of guiding units from
contaminated areas to purification stations.

Normally, chemical reconnaissance detachments work:

a. In participation with another reconnaissance unit, a duty force unit or [illegible]. In this
case, the chemical reconnaissance detachments move according with commanding officer
instructions.

b. Or the reconnaissance detachments will work independently through mutual support to
another unit. Here, a consideration is given to good use of the ground (benefiting as much
as possible from [illegible], hiding and spying operations), in some cases, speed is more
important.

c. With one or two chemical detachments. It is very important to point to the fact that
chemical reconnaissance units perform reconnaissance to give a possible early warning
about attacks of mass destruction weapons, even if the mass destruction weapons have
not been used yet in the battle.

Early warning will enable the commanding officers to take the appropriate precautionary
measures.

[page 35]

* Principals of chemical reconnaissance

There are four principals to be considered a reference point for the commanding officers
of the chemical reconnaissance detachments. While reconnaissance, these principals will
be implemented by members of chemical reconnaissance. The principals are:

a. Concentrating on the location targeted by reconnaissance and how to reach it:

Chemical reconnaissance members will maneuver through normal movements and
mobilization. Reconnaissance members will focus on reconnaissance targets, it is therefore
important to carefully select the ground to secure the best of [illegible] and tracking
without reducing the capability of the unit of

b. Fast and precise notification of all information:

All gathered information must be relayed. Information that appears unimportant maybe
important when used with other information. When mass destruction weapons are used,
knowing that specific areas are not contaminated is as important as knowing the
contamination of other areas. Chemical reconnaissance detachments will relay information
through using forms, biological, nuclear and chemical form.

c. Maintaining freedom of maneuver:

Since chemical reconnaissance detachments are not equipped to engage in battle in order to
obtain information, it is therefore necessary when operating independently to avoid
contact with the enemy. When necessary, it should obtain the information through spying
using careful monitoring and benefiting from the ground by moving on disguised and
concealed roads.

[page 35, reverse]

And when capability of maneuvering is lost, these detachments will operate with other
units such as armored vehicles, duty forces regiment or with cover of armored vehicles.

[illegible]. Situation development:

It is not allowed for chemical reconnaissance members operating independently to engage
with the enemy except in situations of self defense. When contact occurs, enemy fire
must be forced to stop immediately by using machine guns on armored reconnaissance
vehicle, or by using machine guns available to reconnaissance vehicles' members, type
Waz. Then the immediate superior commanding officer will be notified. The
reconnaissance detachment will then move to the closest concealed position; and when
there is a need to fire support, the engaged detachment or the detachment responsible of
monitoring will attack using the available mortar and artillery fire. Attack helicopters may
also be used against enemy vehicles, especially heavy targets such as tanks.

Methods of detachment movements:

There are three methods of movements, their use depends on the likelihood of contact with the
enemy:

a. Movement in convoys: This type of movement is used when there is no anticipation of
contact with the enemy.

b. Movements in groups: This type is used when there is an anticipation of
