TEXT: 1.  MILITARY EQUIPMENT. THE GENERAL CONDITION OF
IRAQI MILITARY EQUIPMENT WAS POOR. THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF
MAINTENANCE OR REPAIR WORK CONDUCTED ON MILITARY VEHICLES.
A.  T-72 TANK. A CONVOY OF APPROX 30 T-72 TANKS [      (b)(1) sec 
1.3(a)(4)    ] GOING SOUTH ON THE AL SAFR HIGHWAY. MANY OF THESE 
TANKS
UERE DAMAGED AND IN NEED OF REPAIR. [      (b)(1) sec 1.3(a)(4)   
 ]THE TANKS
APPEARED TO HAVE TAKEN HEAVY HITS FROM SOME FIGHTING. THE T-72
BARRELS WERE BLACKENED FROM USE. THE TRACKS ON THE T-72 TANKS WERE
WORN AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. NO SPARE TRACK BLOCKS WERE SEEN ON 
THE
BACK OF THE TANKS. [      (b)(1) sec 1.3(a)(4)    ]
 A FEW ENGINES WERE SPITTING OUT SMOKE
AND MAKING A POPPING SOUND. [      (b)(1) sec 1.3(a)(4)    ]


B.  BMP ARMORED PERSONNEL CARRIER. IRAQ'S BMP'S LITTERED
THE AREA ALONG SEVENTH RING ROAD. ALTHOUGH MANY WERE DAMAGED, A
LARGE PERCENTAGE APPEARED INTACT AND ABANDONED. THERE WERE NO
VISIBLE SIGNS OF ANY ATTEMPT TO REPAIR OR RETRIEVE THESE VEHICLES.

C.  ASSAULT RIFLE. IRAQI TROOPS CARRIED AK-47 ASSAULT
RIFLES. THE BLUING AND THE STOCK ARE WORN ON MANY OF THESE 
WEAPONS.

D.  CHEMICAL PROTECTIVE GEAR. IRAQI SOLDIERS CARRIED A
GAS MASK ON THEIR LEFT HIP. THE SOLDIERS CARRIED A LIMITED AMOUNT
OF GEAR IN THEIR POUCH. [      (b)(1) sec 1.3(a)(4)    ]POUCH 
SEEMED TOO SMALL TO INCLUDE CHEMICAL PROTECTIVE SUITES.
