SLIDE 4.               CHEMICAL MUNITIONS

THE FOLLOWING MUNITIONS/DELIVERY SYSTEMS WERE USED BY IRAQ IN THE 

WAR WITH IRAN.  INITIAL TACTICS WERE DEFENSIVE AND INCLUDED 

COVERING IRAQI WITHDRAWAL OR TO BLUNT IRANIAN HUMAN WAVE ATTACKS. 

THE OFFENSIVES OF 1988 SAW THE SUCCESSFUL INTEGRATION OF CW INTO 

IRAQI COMBINED ARMS OFFENSIVE OPERATIONS.  IN THE OFFENSIVE NON-

PERSISTENT NERVE AGENTS WERE USED IN THE FORWARD LINE OF ADVANCE 

AND A COMBINATION OF PERSISTENT MUSTARD AND NON-PERSISTENT NERVE 

AGENT ON IRANIAN COMMAND POSTS AND FOR COUNTER BATTERY FIRE.
