SUBJECT DEPLOYMENT OF ROMANIAN CHEMICAL INFORMATION
DECON TEAM TO SAUDI ARABIA

ACTION SUMMARY
1. purpose: To obtain DJS approval and release of the proposed attached
message to USTRANSCOM tasking airlift support to move a Romanian chemical
contamination treatment unit to Saudi as part of the multinational force.
2. backgroUND: The State Dept received* a request from the Saudi Arabian
embassy for vs airlift to deploy a Romanian chemical contamination
treatment unit comprised of 159 personnel and 57 vehicles. Our initial
estimate is 8 C5 and 15 C141 missions to accomplish the movement. The
OSD/CCC has endorsed** the request and asked the Joint Staff to arrange
movement. Transportation is to be at the -expense of the Saudi government.
3. _DIS~SSlON. In early February, we provided US airlift support for a
four-man Romanian advance team at the request of the Saudis.
OASD/Production and Logistics has approved this movement per their
coordination below.
. RECOMMENDATION: DJS sign and release proposed attached message.
