for DESERT SHIELD units deployed to SWA to receive bulk
issues of underwear and socks for males and females,
officers and enlisted. Bulk issue requests are submitted in
DA Form 3078, Personnel Clothing Request. Units should
appoint a clothing coordinator early on to facilitate
coordination of the unit's clothing needs.
(4) Tents and Cots. Tents and cots are in short supply
in SWA. Units should bring their own cots and all available
tentage to include liners, heaters, light sets. Tents are
being used for billeting troops, providing shelter, and
performing maintenance on both ground and aviation equipment.
(5) Chemical Defensive Equipment (ODE).
(a) Soldiers deploying to SWA must have operational
chemical defensive equipment. Units should conduct detailed
inspection of all CDE prior to deploying. Order spares now.
(b) Check all CDE clothing and masks for defects,
holes, tears, and excessive wear. Ensure that all soldiers
are properly fitted with masks, BDOs/CPOs, boots, and gloves.
(c) Emphasize to soldiers that the protective mask is
not a pillow or seat cushion and must be protected from
inadvertent damage. CDE is a high priority item and should
not be stored in direct sunlight or enclosed vehicles for
extended periods of time.
(4) PMCS of CDE must be emphasized by commanders to all
soldiers to insure individual operational readiness.
C. Class III.
(1) Deployment of POt tankers. Fuel is available at
the Port of Debarkation. Units which arrive at the SPOE
with full or partial loads of POt in fuel tankers have
experienced considerable delay in deployment,
as fuel loaded tankers can only load on roll-on/roll-off
vessels. All fuel tankers should be eniptied prior to
movement to SPOE for shipment.
(2) Basic toad Class 111(P). The DESERT SHIELD
environment combined with high temperatures, has resulted in
increased use of oils, greases, and lubricants. All units
should deploy with Basic toad of class 111(P).
(3) Organic POt refueling and storage capability.
Units should deploy with all organic POt refueling and
storage capability. Additional filter separator elements
should be requisitioned for deployment with units. An
increase use of filters will occur due to environmental
conditions and host nacion diesel fuel specifications.
