                  MOBILITY/COUNTERMOBItITY - 15

TOPIC: Trafficability

DISCUSSION:

During all times of year there exist broad flat regions called
Sabkas. These are areas where the water table is close to the
surface. These Sabkas can be deceptive as they often have a
hard- baked crust and occasionally light vehicles can pass over
them with little problem. Heavier vehicles, however, will almost
certainly become stuck and can quickly become hopelessly stuck.

LESSON(S) LEARNED:

The appearance and characteristics of Sabkas should be studied
carefully to determine trafficability for all types of vehicles.
Route reconniassance should be conducted in conjunction with all
movements and convoys.
