COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT - 1
TOPIC: Lubricants for High Temperature Environments
DISCUSSION:
The sandy, dusty, and high temperature environment of SWA
constitute adverse operating conditions when determining oils and
lubricants requirements. The adverse conditions also make it
difficult to avoid contamination when servicing equipment.
LESSON(S) LEARNED:
Oils and libricants for vehicles and equipment should be changed
to those specified in the applicable equipment to prior to
deployment. Vehicles and equipment operating in SWA should cut
normal oil change intervals in half. In lieu of Grease Artillery
and Automotive (GAA) MIL-G-10924 use Aircraft Grease, Wide
Temperature Range (WTR) MIL-G-81322. Special care should be
taken to prevent contamination when servicing equipment.
Accumulations of sand or dirt must be removed from servicing
joints prior to checking/adding lubricant. Do not lubricate
exposed areas when operating in sandy/ dusty conditions.
