                                       ~FTER flCTION

            ITEM:   ~ir/Target Intelligence

            O8SERV~TION: ~ clear lack of understanding of air and target
            intelligence requirements was evident in the MEF targeting
            process

            DISCUSSION: Targets were nominated for attack by inappropriate
            assets (i~e. B-52's vs widely separated reinforced concrete
            bunkers). Target intelligence necessary to mission planning was
            not developed even when such information was available. The MEF
            target planning staff demonstrated little knowledge of aircraft
            or-air delivered weaponscapabilities and limitations. They also
            did not possess a perspective on what it takes to strike targets
            from the air. This broad statement encompasses such things as
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ mission planning factors, weaponeering etc.
         ...LESSONS LE~RNED:   There are distinct requirements for air and
           %arget intelligence in the Marine Corps that require specific
                  ing and an under~tanding of air warfare.
            RECOMMEND~TION:
