~FTER ~CTION
ITEM: Target Lists
OBSERVi;TION: The MEF S~SS provided separate target assignments
to 3d M~W and to the 3oint Target Board for JF~CC targeting.
~s the MarLnO at CENT~F had no idea what targets were being
serviced by~3d M~W, nominating divert targets was hampered.
DISCUSSION: Wh~le the MEF Master Target List was provided to
MarLnO, we were not cogni~ant of what tasking had already been
passed to~ 3d M~W. Thus when ~F~CC-generated sorties had to be
diverted~~from Marine targets, or were available to MarLnO Current
Ops staffers for divert targets, the potential for conflict
existed -* Multiple strike packages could be assigned to a single
t, aircraft from 3F~CC and 3d M~W could end up rolling in on
*~~~;a given target at the same time, or similar deconfliction
ems could arise. MEF was consulted whenever possible, but
k~o;ften.diverts had to be accomplished short notice.
*~~ ESSONS LE~RNED: Without a picture of which targets were being
it. when, our diffic~ties in conducting current operations were
*.`~ .1~~~compounded. More than likely on several occassions we diverted
~. ;~g~ planes to targets that were also fragged to be hit with M~W
4r**.,. ~~ECOMMEND~TION: Create a program in C~FMS to cross-reference the
****t target request with MflW missions being flown. For example
iver
* *~~ i)by. entering target location and description for the divert target
-~ ~ *~t½;~)~cheduled, C~FMS should be able to tell you if any other missions
scheduled to go on or near that particular target.
