Two accident type situations have occurred:
15 Jan - The M998 was sideswiped by a careless Saudi who recklessly tried to pass
while the M998 was turning left. There was minor damage to the
U998. There were no injuries to either party. A SF-91 was filled
out.
01 Feb The M1008 had an electrical fire in the engine compartment while
enroute to Jubail. Inoperative, it was left on the side of the
road, while the driver/'A' driver went to find a tow. In the mean
time, the vehicle was stolen. A report was made with the MP's. and
a MLSR was submitted. The truck has not bee found to date.
Total mileage by Supply Detachment vehicles was approximately 8,500. Total cargo
hauled approximately 136.000 pounds.
6. MEDICAL L001STICS
In December 1990, Navy Medical Logistics personnel set up an AMAL
storage/issue point in support of two Surgical Support Companies and numerous
Battalion Aid stations. Also provided support to Marine, Army, and Navy units In
all aspects of medical resupply. Acted as a Medical Logistics Liaison for
numerous Battalion Aid Stations in Northern Saudi Arabia. Assisted units in
assigning items from MedLog Company at Jubail.
Assisted in acquiring Pyridiostigmine and Cipro in quantities large enough
to supply all OSO-2 personnel with protection against chemical/biological attack.
Currently acting as a collection point for Valium Auto Injectors, that will
eventually be turned in to MedLog Company at Jubail.
CSSD-82 at Kibrit, the Med Log section provided (1)
8404 to assist in C-130 offload operations at the airstrip. Class IX pallets had
to be broken down, sorted, repalletized by unit, and helo lifted to front line
units,
7. SECURITY
In December 1990, perimeter security was set up for Supply Detachment. This
Included the main gate sentry, roving patrols, and observation posts. Defensive
positions were set in, primarily on the northern berm, consisting of machine gun
nests and fighting positions. Interlocking fields of fire were established,
along with left and right lateral limits to prevent firing towards friendly
positions. The meaning of various Alert Conditions and Threat Conditions was
reiterated over and over, so that all personnel knew what to do in any situation.
Rules for engagement, in accordance with GSG-2 directives, were established, and
weapons control conditions were enforced. The OSO-2 Command Net and CFOC Net
were monitored around the clock to keep abreast of the situation. In ground
bunkers were built and assigned to provide protection from missile attack.
