Narrative Summary
Command, Operations, and Training
Headquarters and Service Battalion, Ist FSSS continues to pro
vide combat service support to the Headquarters, lst FSSG. In
addition to Services, Military Police and Communications support
to the Ist FSSG and I MEF, the HqSvc Bn provided exchange, MP, and
limited communications support to U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and Brit-
ish units in the entire area of operations. HqSvc Bn is continu-
ally drafting and refining contingency operation plans to cover
.the wide array of alternatives which may present themselves. The
CO, HqSvc Bn as Commander, Camp 3 continued to provide billeting
+or various Navy and Marine Corps units. The Camp population
varied -From approxiately 1100 to 3000 during the month. HqSvc Bn
opened numerous service sites in support of forces north of the
Al Jubail area. The CO, HqSvc Bn as Commander, Critical Facility
Camp 3, conducted numerous drills and participated in Rear Area
Security Exercises. Day and night foot patrols were initiated
.around the outside perimeter of the Camp and LPs were deployed
in desert area Northwest of the Camp. The Reactionary Force
conducted drills in the Camp area and in the desert. Of note
was a response to "snipers" in the desert by the Camp 3 React
Force with reinforcement by a company from 2/24. Numerous mobile
patrols were also conducted in the desert and extended to the
and
desert patrols provided an impression of an extensive and per-
vasive rear area security operation.
Personnel and Administration
The Battalion continues to function under the Consolidated
FSSS Adm3.nstration concept. 2nd FSSG Marines joined HqSvc Bn
during this period to augment Service Co (Postal, MCX, Legal and
Disbursing), MP Co and Comm Co.
