its services throughout the entire area of operations. Mobile
Exchanges became very important during this period and were pro-
vided to the lst and 2nd MARDIVS. Mobile MCX's(Tactical Field
Exchanges) consisted of three M923s with M105.,trailers carring
CP tents and MCX merchandise. The Mobile MCXs was set up as far
forward as possible.
Post Office
The Post Office received a total of 2,382,948 lbs of mail
processed 214,625 lbs of outgoing mail during the month. The 2d
,FSSS Postal platoon arrived and was absorbed by the Ist FSSG.
Main Post Office relocated to Camp 6 with minimal problems. 7---
Direct Support Post Offices were established; one at Manifa Bay
and another at Ras Al Mishab. Additional Postal T/E equipment was
received via FIE of 2nd FSSG. Bus transportation provided for
Camp 3 to Camp 6 for Postal and Disbo.
Disbursing Office
During the month of January, the Disburing Office cashed
@2,013,615 worth of checks, issued $27,890,279 worth, and receiv
$41,185 worth of dishonored checks. The Disbrusing Office also
planned for the movement of disbursing capabilities North to
meet the changing situations. With the beginning of hostilities
local vendors are requesting payment for goods upon delivery. As
a result the Disbursing Officer has returned to payment in cash
(riyals) by the contracting office.
Legal Service Support
Implementation of the legal support plan originally develop
to support I MEF during defensive operations in now focused on
support of I MEF during offensive operations. The LSSS continues
to provide legal assitance to units preparing to locate North,
and a new LSST has been formed to provide legal advice regarding
Enemy Prisoner of War processing and handling. Planning continli
toward compositing contact teams, detachments and, if necessary,
augmentation of the LSST's at the Ist MarDiv DSA, SSG-2, 2d MarD
Rear, and I MEF Headquarters areas. This is being done to enst
availability of legal services to the forward deployed units.
Planning for tax assistance program temporarily suspended until
the stabilization of Operation Desert Storm. Tax relief was
provided by Executive Order and Revenue Codes once the theatre w
.declared a combat zone.
Communications Company
Communications Co, continues to provide radio, wire and
Message Center support to the FSSO Headquarters. Varying degrees
of support are being provided to numerous CSSDS, the DSC, Bulk
Fuel, EOD, GSO-1, OSS-2, RAOC, Critical Facility Port Al JLtbail,
