During the month of March all ordnance that was received from
MPS-2 was collected, inventoried, cleaned, and prepared/packed for
turn in to lst Mar Div ordnance officer. Coordination for turn in m
of equipment was done by the Regimental Ordnance Officer. Two
days prior to the Headquarters main body departure, accountability
was accomplished and turn in completed.
Embark
During the month of March, 7th Marines redeployed to 29 Palms,
Ca. from South West Asia. The regiment was embarked in the
following manner. First, we redeployed personnel back to 29
Palms. The second phase of the redeployment was the return of 87
463L pallets and 45 vehicles by air transportation. Third was the
preparation of the remaining vehicles of MPS and MSC turn in to
Ist Mar Div G-4/Embark for final embarkation to their home
station. The total number of vehicles turned in was 681 with MSC
vehicles totalling 68.
communications
The Communication Platoon was in Kuwait City on I March. All
regimental tactical radio nets with the exception of TAC and
ADMIN/LOG were secured on 2 March. On 3 March TFR moved from
Kuwait City to Al Mishab, Saudi Arabia, to download tank and
artillery ammunition. A small command echelon remained overnight
at Al Mishab while the majority of the Marines in TFR
headquarters moved to the DSA near Manifa. An unsecure high
frequency radio circuit was established between Mishab and the
DSA. Upon the arrival of the command echelon at the DSA on 4
March, all tactical radio nets were secured. Wire was the only
ication once TFR was at the DSA. During the period
of 5-16 March the platoon's efforts were directed toward the
cleaning of equipment and separating MPS equipment from "fly-away"
and MSC equipment. Personal gear was also cleaned and inspected
for contraband. An advance party departed Saudi Arabia on 8
March. Its mission was to prepare living spaces, work areas, etc.
for the main body at 29 Palms. Specific communications
requirements included the acquisition of computers, phone lines,
and telephones. The main body of the 7th Marines Headquarters
departed Jubail airport in Saudi Arabia at 0330 (C) on 21 March
and arrived at Norton Air Force Base at 2100 local the same day.
