Experiences 0500 light begins,oil rain contiues
0530 began to see we were is a vehicle graveyard
0630 Saw a whole shed of tank ammo only 30 ft away
0700 walked around, felt ill from pills, drank bug
juice, ate crakers with jelly, tylenol
1200 We mounted up
1300 We moved out again
1330 Passed a EPW compound - full - Reg - 12,000 Epws
Drove through the desert- dark -
1430 stopped over the top of a long ridge
MlAls from 2 tanks were in a battle to our
left with Iraqi tanks about 2 miles ahead of ud
Unbelievable looking through binoculars
1500 Moved out
1530 We passed through the area of burning tanks
and artillery, armno was cooking off
Small arms fire- guys cleared bunkers again
1600 We approached the Al-jahra dump - Twilight zone
Twice we all had to turn around- 2 hrs we tried
to get through it, Very Tense- 3 guys in the back
203 grenade launcher, 2 M-16s, RP 9MM pistol
1820 We entered the landfill/ sandwashing pits and
waited until 0600
Wed 27 Feb G plus 3
0630 We received word to hold defensive positions
in the landfill. Stayed there
Thu 28 Feb G plus 4
0900 Cease Fire exhilaration - some were disappointed
Lessons
Experiences 1. Adjust to continual changes
2. Pace myself
3. Keep in contact with battalion chaplains/RPs/Clerks
4. Eat and drink liquids- can be a lpt of work to eat
5. Have someone to talk to/pray with
6. Understand leaders are not going to affirm you
7. Trust your RP to protect you
B. Dig yourself in
9. Set up own hooch
10. Keep your spiritual life up
11. Keep in touch with family/friends
12. Keep busy at night - 300 letters
13. Prioritize small groups
14. Don't expect special treatment -
15. Keep your head down, prayer life up and eyes open.
16. Don't be afraid to be an officer too.
