1. In accordance with the reference the command chronology for
the Direct Support Command (DSC) is attached.
2. The period 16 February 1991 through 13 Nlarch 1991 was one of
high points in the short history of the Direct Support Command.
On 8 February 1991, the DSC began its displacement from CSSA-1 at
KIBRIT to CSSA-2 at AL XHANJAR. This move was necessitated by the
change in the I YEF scheme of maneuver that saw both Divisions
attacking into Xuwait from +the Southwest. Anticipating that the
Force Commander was going to decide on the new attack option, the
DSC loaded all available IIETS with the earth moving equipment from
two Engineer Support Battalions (7th and Sth) and when the
decision was made at approximately 1330 in the afternoon at the
Sth, this word was relayed to +the waiting convoy and they
commenced their nove to tle new CSSA, AL KHANJAR. The
construction of AL KHANJAR, sixteen miles from l(uwalt, had to be
accomplished with even greater haste than KIBRIT because of the
uncertain kick off of the ground offensive. My Commander's intent
w CSSA to be complete by 0001 20 February 1991.
With the arrival a' the Engineer Support Battalions on the evening
of 8 @ebruary 19914 around the clock work commenced. During the
next seven days, 24 miles of blas@@wall berms and 800 survivability
positions were built. The ASP, completed during this period, was
the largest cellular ASP in Marine Corps history. It covered 768
acres and had over 150 berrned cells, A water supply point with
790,000 gallon capacity was layed and filled. Storage facilities
for 4.8 million gallons of POL was constructed with additional
storage to supply a rotary wing MAO FARP site. The total POL
storage capacity was 5.2 million gallons - the largest fuel farr.
in Miar4ne Corps history.
3. When the 100 hour war kicked off, the fact that the DSC was
far forward enabled the two Divisions to riaintain their momentum
without fear of outdistancing their supplies. Each Division was
supported by a Direct Support Group and each Regiment or Task
