2. Personnel Administration:
When the SMCR units returned to Camp LejeLtne the Battalion
Admin Center focused its attention on processing them for immediate
release -For active duty. Each SMCR unit attached to the Battalion
was processed and released in 5 days or less.
In addition to the SMCR hordes, the BAC had to ensure the Unit
Diary was accurately updated upon each Marines return from SWA.
This job was complicated by the fact that the Battalion had been
divided into 2 RUC's for deployment. RUC 12012, the Battalion's
rear party, was reintegrated with RUC 12001 on 10 May. It took
several additional weeks to get the UCPS up to date.
3. Legal Action
The Battalion Legal Section provided administrative support for
the following:
NJP SPCM
March E3 0
April 3 0
May 3 2
June 11 4
Total 25 6
The billet of Legal Officer was filled by CWO3 Wells from 1 March
to I May, and Capt Griggs from I May to 30 June.
4. Medical
The Battalion Aid Station provided medical care for the
Main CP in Kuwait. Aside from the death of Sergeant Montalvo the
BAS treated the usual range of illnesses and minor injuries.
Respiratory Complaints had been higher than usual since arriving in
SWA, and they continued to be of concern in Kuwait because of the
polluted air. As the weather got warmer and the Main CP remained
in the same place flies and wild dogs became major nuisnaces.
Because there were some cases of dog bites in other units, the
nder forbade feeding, petting or otherwise
encouraging the dogs. There were no cases of dog bites in the
Main. With the cessation of hostilities and the commencement of
regular helicoter transport to JLtbayl and Fleet Hospital Five the
number of non-emergency evacuations +or treatment increased. The
BAS served as a medical point of contact for Division units'
medevacs. Most medevacs were +or minor or routine treatment, but
several ended up going stateside, including one of the Battalion
Medical Officers, Dr. Winesett, who had a pre-development foot
problem which required surgery, and Captain PrLtdhomme of
Communication Company. Captain PrLtdhomme stumbled one dark night
and cut his hand severely on an engineer stake. Stateside surgery
was successful, and he regained full use of his hand.
