b. The AMAL units were reorganized and inventoried in
preparation for retrograde back to CONUS.
C. Statements concerning environmental hazards and Cipro and
NAPP intake were annotated in individual Marine's record books and
medical records.
d. All medical records were received to ensure that all
documentation for every Marine of 3d Battalion, 23d Marines was up
to date.
e. "Release from Active Duty' medical statements were printed
and made available for signature by the individual Marine. Any
Marine who had a documented physical within the past four years is
not required to undergo a separation physical unless the Marine
requests one due to an existing problem.
f. A medical representative from the "Admin Assist" team gave
a lecture to all Marines of 3d Battalion, 23d Marines concerning
'Post War Stress Syndrome." Additionally, a representative gave a
lecture and answered questions pertaining to environmental hazards
the Battalion was exposed to in Kuwait (is., oil fire smoke and
soot, decaying dead animals, stray animals, flies, chemical and
biological agents).
9. Logistics/Supply. The logistical effort for March was split
between three distinct missions; coordinating logistical support
for mopping up operations in early March; the establishment for a
permanent bivouac position southwest of Kuwait City, and
reconsolidating the assets of the Battalion. All three missions
were conducted concurrently and all the missions were adversely
affected by chronic transportation problems which have plagued the
Battalion since activation.
The cessation of formal hostilities found the Battalion in a
built up position near Al-Jaharra, an area which can only be
mistically described as a combination slum and abandoned stock
yard. On March 1, 1991, the Battalion withdrew from this position
to a cultivated area approximately 5 kilometers south and was
tasked to clear a series of farm compounds bypassed during initial
offensive operations. The S-4 coordinated logistical support for
these operations and the area was declared secure on March 1,
1991. The logistical support for the Battalion was handled without
any noteworthy issues, however, the large volume of ammunition,
small arms and assorted communications equipment discovered by the
Battalion during the course of sweeping the cultivated area
required a three day effort to catalog and turn in to our parent
command.
