enhance the unit's ability to complete any follow-on missions and
prepare for eventual deactivation. Between 27 March 1991 and 30
March 1991, all companies in this Battalion conducted training at
the 8th Marines Small Arms Range.
6. Personnel and Administration. With the cessation of
hostilities, the focus during March 1991, was to regroup the S-1
Section. Previous operational commitments necessitated the
division of the S-1 into forward and rear elements. The rear
element was located with the 2d Marine Division rear, in the Kabrit
area of Saudi Arabia. The forward element moved with the LOC/'B'
Command Group.
The rear element worked the unit diary, SRB's and
correspondence, while the forward element processed POWs and
provided LOC security. Bringing the two elements together involved
moving the rear personnel forward. Their computers followed once
generated power became available. By the very end of March, the
forward S-1 element was completely functional with only 10 of the
38 S-1 personnel remaining at Camp 15, Saudi Arabia.
The main effort for the forward S-1 element was to conduct a
]Battalion wide SRB/OQR audit. Every Marine in the Battalion
reported to S-1 and walked his SRB/OQR through a series of
stations, beginning with pay/diary. The final station was with the
Company First Sergeant and Battalion S-1. On the heels of the
SRB/OQR audit came the computation of all Lance Corporals and
Corporals composite scores for the 1 April 1991 promotion quarter.
Finally, representatives from the Reserve Support Unit, Camp
Lejeune (RSU) visited the S-1 forward element to lay the groundwork
for deactivation. Worksheets for the preparation of DD 214s and
final pay settlements (form 11060), were addressed in depth. In
addition, special pay problems were communicated to the
representatives of the RSU to be addressed while this Battalion was
awaiting transportation to CONUS.
