7., Complications in a@i.'.Leving adequate medical evacuation prompted creative
communication means and repeated exercises. It developed into medical direct
support to communications and S-3/S-4 elements in properly'securing medevac
availability at .the battalion level. The regiment became a backup system.
Daily checks and confirmations were initiated and later an air officer was
attached to the regimental command providing an improved capability. This
.planning and trai'ning @roved decisive in securing medical air evacuation during
the combat phase of the operations
                 8. During the Kuwait grotad offensive of 24 Feb 9i to 28 Feb 91, the regimental
medical team rapidly deployed with the Tactical Command Post (TAG) and the
FLB providing medical care as needed on the move and at 3 locations over a 4
day period. Fortunately, no serious casualties were eucounted although one
lith Marine assigned to Headquarters was killed in action with a radar team
supporting 1/12. Throughout the defensive posture, logistical preparation,
and offensive conflict the regimental medical team provided preventive health
care, medical treatment, emergency stabilization, battalion medical support
and general medical support to thellst Marine Division.

                 9. Not only training the re@ents corpsman and Ilth Marines in conventional
and contaminated casualty care but also a general and two direct NBC Divisional
teams. Because of the shortage of available corpsman Division wide, the
regimental medical team trained several NBC and other marines how to provide
econtamination wound
management principles to fill the gap in care.

                 10. At the conclusion of hostilities on 28 Feb L991, the regimental medical
team was co-located with the FLB and TAC on the outskirts of Kuwait City.
All minor conbat injuries had been handled and those marines returned to duty.
No serious injuries or mortalities were received and no medical evacuations
called. A few EPW's (Enemy@Erisoners of War) were seen, treated and sent to
collecting and clearing companies or EPW holding centers for proper processing
and care. The regimental medical team was ready for retrograde movement.
