As additional communication equipment was unloaded at Al Jubayl
and forwarded to the main command post, services and communications
support became increasingly reliable and redundancy for internal camp
communications and external switching became possible. one of the
most remarkable communications systems used during the war was the
wide area computer network (WAN). The WAN provided a record
communications capability between principal staff members at each of
the command posts throughout the MEP. Whole OPORDERS could be sent
over the LAN in a fraction of the time required to send an outline
plan over a voice net. The WAN Chat mode also provided an effective
interactive communications means, even when voice communications were
          degraded.
