Subj: CBR PROTECTION FOR FIXED WING AIRCREWS

ISSUE: USMC fixed wing aircrews did not have CBR

NAVAFR is pursuing efforts to integrate the Canadian Armed Forces
(CAF) AR-5 eye/respiratory protection system in USMC fixed wing
aircraft. This system is a variant of the AR-5 that USMC
          helicopter crews use.

          1. (U) CNO (OP-505), CMC (APW), and NAVAIR (AIR-531) are
seeking the loan of AR-5 eye/respiratory systems from CAP to meet
          the fixed wing requirement.

          2. (U) Ground/flight testing has begun; initial results are
positive. The goal is to complete testing by 1 October.

          3. A Pending CAF approval of the loan of Canadian AR-5
assets, the goal is to begin fielding these systems within 15
          days of receiving them.
