lecture was both interesting and informative. The squadron also
received briefs on friendly Integrated Air Defense Systems (IADS) and
use of the Shrike anti radiation missile.
Ground training covered during the first half of the month also
centered around increased combat readiness. The entire squadron was
given classes by Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) personnel on
what might be expected in the event of chemical attack. Also, squadron
NBC gear was given the final check for servicability. Additionally,
the squadron reactionary force finalized plans for the defense of the
airfield perimeter in the event of attack.
PERSONNEL AND ADMINISTRATION
lectronic signatures and SEEDS (passwords) were assigned to all
@itediary uses. The President signed an executive order authorizing
federal income tax exclusion for service members involved in Operation
Desert Storm, and these exclusions were run on the unit diary. Meal
Card/Identification card inventories were conducted, classes were given
on casualty reporting, and a computer program was designed to compute
Marine's composite scores. The administrative department did
experience problems with Marine Air Group Thirty One's (MAG-31) orders
assigning new personnel to VMFA-451. These problems were forwarded to
the MAG-31 personnel officer for rectification. The administrative
department continues to provide outstanding adminsitrative support to
Warlord personnel.
LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY
@Through January as the logistics situation continued to improve in
theater, the S-4 shop continued to provide superior support for the
squadron. The outbreak of hostilities had no effect on the shop's
ssion. Logistics personnel helped provide
round-the-clock transportation for aircrew in support of 24 hour flight
operations. Additionally, the squadron S-Sections finally settled into
3 spacious GP tents on concrete pads as well as a CP tent for the
command element. These working quarters are hard-backed and screened
with ample electricity and newly constructed bench seating.
As the shop officers have had the greater amount of their attentions
directed towards combat missions, the enlisted complement has adjusted,
and shouldered the additional load without breaking stride. Their
efforts are noteworthy.
16EGAL
January brought the Warlords no legal activities. This can be
Attributed to the high tempo of operations, the prohibition of alcohol,
and the ability of VMFA-451 Marines to concentrate on the task at hand.
AVIATION SAFETY/NATOPS
@The Safety department submitted it's nomination for the annual
Chief Of Naval Operations (CNO) safety award to MAG-31 via MAG-11 and
continues to monitor squadron operations for standardized procedures.
Although instrument checks have been postponed until the completion of
the deployment, the NATOPS officer continues to administer annual
NATOPS qualifications as directed by MAG-11. The NATOPS department
ensured all pilots were familiar with the seat pan survival equipment,
