                 Subj:  DISPOSAL OF HAZARDOUS WASTE/MAT---RIELS

                 1. The proper handling and disposal of hazardous
                 meterials/waste in 68udi8 Arabia is an important issue and one
                 in which commanders should stress throughout their commands.
                 Although we continue to press forward in an operational
                 environment, we must continuously be aware of the personnel
                 and environmental dangers connected with the improper disposal
                 of waste materials. Procedures for proper handling and
                 disposal of these materials does not change because we have
                 transitional into the field environment. Over the long term,
                 much Of Maintenance will be conducted in rear areas as well es
                 forward. Conse@nLly, the same policies and procedures which
                 apply at home bases apply here in Savdia Arabia.

                 2. i-he following procedures will be followed to dispose of
                 hazardous meteriels/waste:


                     a) Waste oils and liquids will be d,imped into 55 gallon
                 drums and sealed for transportation.

                     b) Batteries will pelletized for transportation.

                     c) All hazardous materiels/waste will be transported by
       the owning unit to the supply issue point located in the port
                 area or to the nearest CSSD in the forward area. Materiels
                 will be accompanied by the proper disposal documents (DD
                 1348).

                     d) Units reqjirng cont,@*rs for ttoreg@ of hazardous
                 materielslwe--te may be drawn from the issue point at the FSSG.

                     a) No hm=erdous materiels/vaste is to be locally disposed
                 of in either the forward or rear areas.
