3D BATTALION, 12TH MARINES COMMAND CHRONOLOGY
S. Logi5tics/Supply
The summary for the war is included in item 1, the Combat
Chronology for Operation Desert Shield/Storm. During the period
1 to 4 March the Battalion Forward Logistics Point continued to
provide support to the Battalion by resupply of Class I, III, and
IX materials through CSSD-17 and CSSO-10 which was located a+
Kuwaiti International Airport, later provided additional resupply
during the period of 2-4 March. On 6 March, the Battalion di5-
placed from its position outside Kuwait City and convoyed to the
Division Support Area at Manifa Bay, Saudia Arabia. During the
following two weeks the emphasis was placed on the maintenance of
organic assets and preparing the Battalion's equipment for embar-
kation to Okinawa, Japan. The Drdnance Section also returned to
several class V drop Site5 used by the Battalion inside Kuwait to
pick up unexpended ammunition and returned it to the central
ammunition storage point located at Ras Al Mishab.
On 15 March the Battalion began transferring equipment from
the OSA to the staging area outside Camp 15 at Al Jubayl. The
movement of equipment to the staging area continued through 19
March with all but the essential equipment required for running
the base camp at the OSA. Essential equipment was embarked,
staged and accounted for.
On 19 March cargo and personnel identified for air movement
aboard cargo aircraft to Okinawa, Japan departed DSA and wweee
billeted at the Al Jubayl airfield where they stayed until their
departure on 21 March.
On 21 March the Battalion'5 advance party departed Al Jubayl
International airport for Okinawa, Japan. The Battalion's Cargo
rning by air departed on both 1 and 9 April. All equipment
returning by surface departed Saudia Arabia on 10 and 25 April
MVS Kocak and Anderson.
The main body of personnel arrived on Okinawa 9 April 1991
and reoccupied working and billeting spaces. As the bulk of
3/12's equipment and cargo were still enroute, the thrust of the
maintenance effort was geared towards the ordnance items that
returned by air. The MVS Kocak with a portion of the Battalion's
equipment docked at Naha port Dkinawa on 9 May 1991. Thirty-5ix
Marines from the Battalion were assigned TAD to CSSD-33 who
controlled the offload and maintenance of all returning Desert
Storm equipment. The remainder of the Battalion's equipment was
brought by the MVS Anderson and arrived on 18 May. By 21 May the
bulk of the Battalion's equipment was inspected by Customs and
returned.
