In the defense of the Saudi Arabian Peninsula, air, land, and sea

components of a multinational force have established two major command

structures. Close coordination exists between the Saudi-led combined

Regional Force (Arab nations who have entered into bilateral agreements

to assist Saudi Arabia) and the US force. British forces have been attached

to assist US forces.

Coordination between the multinational ground forces is achieved in

a centrally located coordination center where detailed plans and support

are worked out and exercised. This arrangement is working very well and

is the basis for control of forces through national command structures.

Joint and combined training is ongoing to improve the readiness of

the multinational force, and exercises like Imminent Thunder are executed

to ensure effective command and control and the integration of the force.

Air operations over the Saudi Peninsula are coordinated through

USCENTAF to ensure integrated air defense and unified use of air

resources. Like ground operations, command and control of the air effort

is exercised daily, and the potential is fully tested in periodic training

operations.

Naval operations are focused on both the defense of the Saudi

Peninsula and the maritime interception `effort. USNAVCENT coordinates

naval operations in the Persian Gulf and assists with the coordination of

the multinational interception force in the Gulf of Oman and the Red Sea.
