         The Army and Marine Corps announce the call-up of 26,625 reservists mostly for combat roles in
      support of Operation Desert Shield. It is the biggest group of reservists called up on a single day since
      President Bush authorized the use of citizen-soldiers in the Persian Gulf crisis in August. (washin~tcn

         Tuesday --- Secretary of State Baker and Soviet Foreign Minister Schevardnadze say further U.N.
      action will be needed to get Iraq out of Kuwait, but no agreement was reached on exactly what that
