      ---Wednesday--- U.S., U.S.S.R. and France separately call for U.N. to pass a resolution against Iraq,

         Mobile Inshore Underwater Warfare Unit 22 leaves home base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire five
      days after being notified. The unit has 68 persons assigned including II officers and three women.

         Thursday --- President Bush visits troops in Saudi desert for Thanksgiving dinner and talks tough
      to them about Iraq. (New York Times, November 23, p. Al.)

         Britain will send 14,000 more troops and additional tanks, aircraft and ships to the Persian Gulf
      bringing the total number of British troops there to 30,000 by the end of the year, Defense Minister
      Tom King says. (New York Times, November 23, p. A17.)

         Secretary of State Baker is unsuccessftil in getting Yemen, the only Arab nation on the U.N. Security
      Council, to support the use of force in the Gulf. (New York Times, November 23, p. Al 8.)

November 23
         Friday --- President Bush meets with Syrian President Assad in Geneva and says Syria supports the
      use of force against Iraq. (New York Times, November 24, p. 1.)

         U.S. has asked NATO allies to help move U.S. forces from Europe to the Persian Gulf. (New York

         Secretary of Defense Cheney signs order stopping retirements and extending enlistments in the
