Pentagon spokesman Pete Williams announces that Secretary of Defense Cheney is preparing to
summon up~to 170,000 additional reservists under authority recently provided to the Secretary by the
President. The additional authority is needed since the Pentagon is nearing its previous ceiling of
189,250. Most of the additional call-ups will be allocated to the Army. (Washington Post, January 20,
