                                POINT PAPER

    Subj:   FOX, NUCLEAR, BIOLOGICAL, CHE~ICAL RECONNAISSANCE SYSTEM
            (FOX NBCRS)                   -      -

    1.   The Fox NBCRS is produced by Thyssen Henschel, a West German
    C~ntractor.  The system is fielded and used by the West
    German Army.

    2.   It is a six wheeled, highly mobile vehicle that is powered by a
    V-8 diesel.  The Fox has an amphibious capability and is designed
    to perform NBC reconnaissance on the modern battlefield.   It is
    collectively protected and can detect, collect, correlate and
    disseminate NBC data without exposing the crew to the contaminated
    environment.

    3.   The U.S. Army is utilizing General Dynamics to transition NATO
    technology to the U.S. Army production base.   Maintenance, parts,
    etc.   will be provided by General Dynamics in SWA.

    4.   The USMC has received 10 vehicles for use in SWA.  The standard
    cost is 1.7 million each.   The German government has given us all
    ten vehicles at the total cost of 1.6 million as part of their
    contribution to Desert Shield/Storm.
-~  5.   MCLB has issued the following equipment to support the program
    to date:

          AN/VRC 47 Radios               MK-1967/VCR
          MBAl Chemical Agent Alarm      Bracket Support Assemblies
          R-442 Receiver                 M240 E-l Machine Gun
          MK-2147/VCRs                   M25A1 Gas Masks with Hoods

    6.   MOS 5711 (NBC specialists) have been trained as crew members
    and MOS 2147 (LAV mechanics) have been trained as maintenance
    technicians.

    7.   The requirement document is being prepared by the NBC proponent
    at MCCDC WFC.

    8.   ILSD is on distribution and will be involved in all future
    meetings and conferences to plan life cycle support.
