                        673b, and notified Congress

              23 Aug    SECDEF authorized the recall of 6,300 Navy and 3,000 Marine
                        Corps SELRES

              23 Aug    BUMED submitted reserve medical/dental call-up plans for
                        Operation Desert Shield to the Director, Mobilization Joint
                        Plans Division (OP-601)

              24 Aug    2,380 Navy medical SEIRES personnel recalled to backfill CONUS
                        hospitals for active staffs that had deployed

              20 Sep    SECDEF presented plan to Congress to recall 30,000 additional
                        reservists


              10 Oct    Marine Corps ordered activation of combat service support
                        detachment to replace deployed active unit

              29 Oct    Defense appropriations bill authorized an extension of the
                        call-up period of active-duty combat reserves to 180 days with

                        and reserve Marine Corps personnel

               8 Nov    President ordered an increased presence in the Gulf to support
                        an offensive capability

              13 Nov    SECDEF increased reserve call-up authority to 126,250, includ-
                        ing 10,000 for the Navy and 15,000 for the Marine Corps

up authority to 189,250,

               3 Dec    Navy announced a stop-loss for naval personnel assigned to
