          Fleet Hospital Five Chronology                       12 March 1991

          Au@t 1990

          9 -  Personnel who are to be assigned to FH5 are put on alert for
               the possibility of activating FH5.

          12 - Fleet Hospital Five is activated.

          14 - Word is passed through BUMED and CINCLANTFLT to activate
               FH5.

          23 - Air Detachment and Advance Party fly into Dhahran airport,
               assigned temporary berthing at Camp One.

          24 - Air Detachment and Advance Party arrive Al Jubail, Saudi
               Arabia to begin preparations for setting up FH5.

          25 - Began do-preservation of 107 pieces of Civil Engineer
               Support @ipment. Established fuel and water points, and
               contract for sewage and trash removal.

          26 - International Standards Organization (ISO) containers are
               staged. Unpacking begins and the first temper tent (admin)
               is set up with power and air conditioning.

          27 - Adrain off-load of FH5 gear from NV Noblestar.

          28 - First ISO container is opened.

          28 - Arrangements were completed with 7th BSSG to procure MREs
               and "Al' rations through host nation. This was vital because
               only 190 cases of MRE's were provided in the AMAL.

          30 - Air Detachment (CBUs 411 and 415) and Advance Party erect
               the Firehouse.

          31 - The first half of FH5 personnel departed Naval Hospital
               Portsmouth for NAS Norfolk enroute to Saudi Arabia.


          September 1990

          1 -  747 Pan Am flight arrives at Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia with
               first half of FH5 personnel. Staff is temporarily berthed
               in hospital temper tents.

          I -  Air Detachment (SeaBees) and Advance party begin erecting
               hospital. The first tents (temper) erected housed hospital
ration and Food Services.

          1 -  Began spraying aerosolized malathion for insect control,
               arranged through First FSSG Preventive Medicine Group.
